The needs of Haigh customers are continually changing, in particular due to increased regulatory requirements, environmental factors and ever present pressure on both capital and operational budgets.
As such Haigh invest significantly in research and development with a constant pipeline of product development, both to improve the existing Haigh product ranges and develop new products.
Below are some recent highlights from our design team,
| SOLO single bedpan disposer |  |
SOLO - the importance of customer feedback | A requirement for a small, ergonomic bedpan disposer in addition to the main Sluicemaster range was identified from customer feedback. This would allow pulp products to be disposed of more conveniently in particular in areas without convenient access to a sluice room, as well as better suit the needs of the Private Healthcare market, Care Homes and Nursing Homes.
A design brief was laid out, and in partnership with local healthcare establishments, the SOLO was prototyped, tested and put into production over a 12 month period.
The fully integrated design system at Haigh, linked directly into manufacturing and production, as well as an existing supply chain already in place from experience with the Panaway and Classic+ models were critical in facilitating this development.
Customer feedback and review was also fundamental through the process, to ensure that the new product met the demanding requirements of everyday operation. |

The Haigh range of ACE Screeners has proven highly popular with Water Authorities both in the UK and overseas for many years, up to flow rates of 100 l/s. Following research into the market and design concepts it was clear that in order to increase the Haigh offering, a Bandscreen approach rather than a Semi-Rotary screen approach would be required.
In addition a complete product that would also handle Grit, not require separate wash water systems would be the best approach, and with Reliability top of the customer requirements all aspects of this were investigated in detail in partnership with a customer.
Taking existing proven Haigh technologies such as the LISAB screen cleaning systems and extending them with innovative developments a prototype inlet was developed. |

| Panaway Upgrade - Hands Free Opening |  |

Designed with the user in mind | The popular Sluicemaster Panaway required a hands free opening system and automatic start to reduce the chances of cross infection and simplify its use for an operator.
These customer requirements were implemented at no additional cost to the customer by the Haigh design and production team in a very short period of time.
The benefits of a fully integrated in house design and production team ensured that this upgrade could be introduced into the model without affecting the reliability or performance of the previous version.
Customer feedback after the introduction of such a change is also closely monitored as there is always the next improvement that Haigh are looking to incorporate into the product. |
| Food Waste Concentrator (FWC) |  |
For most people travelling on ships, either cross-channel ferries, cruiseliners or naval ships, what happens to foodwaste is a mystery. International maritime rules currently prohibit dumping of untreated waste, but the likelihood is that dumping will altogether become unacceptable.
The Haigh Food Waste Concentrator was designed to prototype and tested in only three months to take a ships foodwaste and turn it into a thick slurry which can be mixed with waste oils and injected into a high efficiency incinerator along with other ship waste.
The machine has been tested in Gosport in a simulated environment and viewed by potential customers that include major cruise lines, Nato and the UK armed forces. |
