Effective Food Waste Maceration Ideal for Ships and Submarines

The Haigh garbage disposer is a highly effective foodwaste disposer which is compactly designed to fit in ship and submarine galleys. Made with tough castings for long life there are also non magnetic and anti corrosion models available.
Operation
The general principle of operation is as follows: Turn on the water supply and press the start button. This will activate the contactor to start the macerator motor and energise the solenoid valve, which will admit water to the machine.
Pressing the stop button will cut off power to the macerator motor and solenoid valve to stop the macerator and water flow.

Water Feed
The water feed, which should be 18-27 litres per minute, passes through a solenoid valve to the pulveriser head and impeller jets. The water and waste discharges through a 54 mm waste pipe.
Pulveriser
This comprises an impeller rotating at high speed within a toothed cutter ring that is supported between two rubber gaskets in the pulveriser head housing. The impeller fins are tipped with a very hard grade material to ensure a long and useful life. String, metal, plastic or rubber objects must NOT be placed in the disposer. If, however, such materials inadvertently get into the machine and the impeller becomes jammed, refer to the instructions on the use of the release bar (900-029018).
Motor

The motor is continuously rated 0.55 kW, three phase, 60 Hz. It is fitted with a specially designed robust drive end-mounting bracket on which the whole unit is mounted. The motor is totally enclosed; fan cooled or naturally cooled and conforms to normal specifications, including those for marine use. Grease nipples for the bearings are blanked off, as the bearings are pre-packed with grease before leaving the factory. The blanking plugs may be removed for further lubrication and nipples fitted.
(See manual). Too much grease in the bearings can give rise over-heating, noise and eventual breakdown.

Installation
The position of the disposer is very important. Ensure that the machine is installed in the best position for easy access to drainage and for servicing and operation.
